Membership year 2027
Alpenverein is an Austrian alpine club. As a member you get year-round Alpenverein Weltweit Service insurance as part of the membership fee: rescue from inaccessible terrain up to €25,000 in Slovakia and worldwide, plus medical treatment and repatriation from abroad. Membership for 2027 costs €83 for an adult; a family pays €83 – €149 and children are free.

You do not take out an insurance policy; you join the club and pay an annual membership fee. Weltweit Service cover (insurer: Generali Versicherung AG) comes with membership and is not sold separately.
You pay the membership fee for a calendar year and renew it every year. When the insurance starts is explained in the questions below.
What does membership give you?
As a member you get year-round mountain insurance: rescue from inaccessible terrain up to €25,000 including Slovakia, medical treatment and repatriation abroad up to €10,000 for the first 8 weeks of each trip, liability up to €3,000,000 in Europe, and lower overnight rates at Alpenverein and partner club huts.
- Rescue from inaccessible terrain: Up to €25,000 per person per insured event, year-round and worldwide including Slovakia, during leisure time. Insurance cover and limits
- Medical treatment and repatriation abroad: Treatment abroad up to €10,000 after an accident or illness, repatriation with no amount limit. Applies during the first 8 weeks of each trip abroad. Contact Europ Assistance before hospitalisation, transport or repatriation abroad; otherwise the maximum reimbursement is €750.
- Liability and legal protection in Europe: Third-party liability up to €3,000,000 and criminal legal protection up to €35,000 for the activities listed in the terms. Insurance terms
- Lower overnight rates at mountain huts: Member rates at Alpenverein huts in Austria, Germany and South Tyrol and at more than 1,300 huts of partner clubs across Europe.
The insurance does not cover everything. Exclusions include trips with ascents above 6,000 m, expeditions, competitions at regional, national or international level, and all mountain-biking competitions. The binding cover, limits and exclusions are set by the applicable insurance terms.
How much does membership cost?
For 2027, an adult pays €83, the discounted category €66, youth or disability €32 and a family €83 – €149. The insurance is included; there is nothing extra to pay for it.

How do I become a member?
You apply online. Choose a membership type, enter your details and we email you the payment information. After payment, membership is activated; the start of cover is in the confirmation.

Frequently asked questions about membership
Can I get Alpenverein insurance without membership?
No. Alpenverein Weltweit Service insurance is part of membership and is not sold on its own. You pay the membership fee and get the cover as a club member.
When does the insurance start?
Cover applies if the membership fee was paid before the insured event. If you pay after 31 January, cover starts at midnight on the day after payment. New members who join from 1 September are insured until 1 January of the following year at no extra cost for that period. According to the insurance terms, Duration section. Duration of insurance.
Does the insurance apply in Slovakia?
Rescue from inaccessible terrain does: it applies worldwide including Slovakia. Medical treatment and repatriation relate to trips abroad.
How does family membership work?
A married couple or partners with children pay €149, a single parent with children €83. Children under 18 and students up to 27 are free in the family. Everyone must live at the same address.
