From 1 January 2026, Georgia will introduce mandatory health and accident insurance for all foreign tourists entering the country. This measure also applies to hikers, ski tourers, and mountaineers who travel to Georgia to explore its unique mountain regions. Under the new regulations, the insurance must cover the entire duration of the stay, with a minimum of 30,000 Georgian Lari (approximately EUR 9,700).
Tourists must present a valid insurance policy upon entry, in English or Georgian, in paper or electronic form.
An advantage for Alpenverein Slovakia members
Members of Alpenverein can travel to Georgia knowing that, under the applicable terms, their insurance coverage for medical treatment, accidents, and mountain rescue is designed to meet the requirements of the new Georgian regulations. The insurance included in Alpenverein membership provides limits and worldwide territorial coverage, including Georgia – details are in the terms and conditions.
Before travelling, we recommend checking the validity of your membership and carrying proof of insurance in English, available in electronic form. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
This allows you to explore the Georgian mountains with more peace of mind and focus on what truly matters – safe movement in the mountains and the experience itself.
